Red Bee Media Chooses Aspera for High-Performance File Transfer

Red Bee Media, a company that distributes and promotes multimedia content, has selected Aspera (News - Alert), a software development company creating innovative bulk data transport technologies, for high performance file transfers of any size over any network connection.

Following the selection of Aspera, Red Bee Media has extended its digital hive media management platform with a secure media gateway to enable clients to transfer large media files over an Internet connection.

The new platform is aimed at allowing clients to receive or deliver both work in progress or completed programs as files. Currently, many enterprises use tape or data fed over dedicated circuits, resulting in inefficiency and higher costs. The media management platform with a secure media gateway offered by Red Bee Media reduces cost and improves efficiency.

The digital hive media management platform from Red Bee Media reduces the need for dedicated network links. It also offers secure and efficient means of transferring media files over existing broadband connections.

The media gateway uses transport technology from Aspera to offer high-speed transfer of files. Conventional file transfer technologies are not efficient for transmitting large files. The media gateway uses the “fasp” protocol developed by Aspera to offer fast and consistent transfers over existing networks.

Fasp software products are becoming the industry standard for high-speed transfer of digital content in the media and entertainment marketplace. It is also becoming the technology for deployment at enterprises. Hence the selection of Aspera was easy.

Before zeroing in on Aspera, Red Bee Media has reviewed available solutions. Red Bee Media has selected Aspera as the initial technology supplier since it offered a flexible, cost-effective approach, which is relatively easy for clients to install.

"Aspera software is widely used throughout the media industry and delivers the fastest and most predictable file transfer experience with complete security and control over network bandwidth," said Michelle Munson, president and co-founder of Aspera.

"File-based delivery has many advantages, but existing Internet technologies like FTP simply do not scale to support the transmission of massive media files over standard networks," added Sue Farrell, head of architecture at Red Bee Media.
