China Industrial Bank Deploys Teradata Enterprise Data Warehouse

China Industrial Bank has reportedly adopted the Teradata (News - Alert) Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to establish its information management infrastructure. The EDW delivers operational stability and outstanding performance to greatly enhance the decision-making capabilities and core competitiveness for Industrial Bank.

Teradta said that the first phase of the EDW project went into production on April 30, 2006, and was one of the largest information technology (IT) investments by the bank.

The company established the EDW as the fundamental data platform for the bank upon which new applications such as anti-money-laundering have been built in the past two years.

The retail banking information system was recently migrated onto the EDW platform to consolidate existing applications to enable data sharing across the bank. Both partners are currently planning the other applications to be built upon this centralized platform, including customer relationship management (CRM) and risk management systems.

The bank wanted to achieve centralized information management and better meet regulatory requirements of Basel II and thus chose the Teradata EDW to build a centralized information management infrastructure by loading data from major business systems across the bank.

During the first phase of implementation, Teradata and Industrial Bank established a platform for extracting, cleaning, loading and transforming data, a source for data storage and access by business systems. Teradata also helped the bank in accomplishing planning for EDW-based applications, optimizing EDW management, and setting up management architecture and operational process for long-term EDW development based on data warehouse project implementation and maintenance methodology.

Thanks to the advanced, flexible and scalable EDW, the bank has been able to effectively integrate data from different systems and platforms within the bank. EDW has provided a historical data storage platform and a single view of the business to enable compliance with Basel II in terms of the length of time that data is stored and secured when it is shared across the bank, explained the company sources.

Teradata has also introduced an enterprise data model, designed to deliver customer service and management analytics to address data standardization.

Industrial Bank’s project leader said that they have achieved centralized information management through this standardized data platform which integrated data from different business systems. The bank is thus offering executives and other staff at all levels diversified services like information query, dynamic reporting, multi-dimensional analysis and data mining. They can also provide efficient decision support for customer information management, CRM, risk management, performance management, product profitability analysis and financial management, which further strengthens their core competitive edges.

The bank also established a comprehensive CRM system based on the EDW, which covers customer information collection, exchange, analysis and applications, and effectively integrated different distribution channels.

Simon Yang, general manager of Teradata East China said that their company provides comprehensive solutions and advanced technologies, and has accumulated rich experience in data warehouse implementation for the financial sector.

Yang noted that half of the top ten global commercial and savings banks have adopted Teradata data warehouse solutions in the mainland China market.
