BitWise Controls has launched the latest release of its BC4 standards-based control system network interface. Using the BC4, a hardware device can be controlled and monitored by an IP-based software and control system.
The system's design is modular in nature to give users maximum flexibility. Integrators can match the base units and expansion module. It offers a/v integrators options and advantages of modular design, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), and robust two-way communications. It is the only PoE-capable product that does not need a power supply at each BC4 location. The base unit can either be wall or shelf-mounted.
A base unit, along with various expansion I/O modules available from BitWise Controls, together sum up the BC4 system. Enclosed in a rugged steel structure and powered by 802.3af PoE or a standard 12VDC wall supply, the base unit contains an in-built network adaptor and temperature sensor.
While the Bc4 can take advantage of future enhancements with the help of the field-upgradeable firmware, it can monitor the ambient environment with the on-board temperature sensor. It can recognize and adapt itself to various I/O plug-in expansion modules instantly. These modules thus become an important part of the base unit.
These expansion modules are configured individually and in such a way that they can each do control and monitoring tasks. The BC4-BCXI is the first such module, and it has five IR ports. It is very fast and efficient, as a result of its extensive on-board IR code database with built-in IR learning. IR signals can be routed to any or all of the 5 IR outputs.
The BC4 system uses integration-friendly commands and feedback via two-way TCP or UDP (

Alert). It can easily integrate with popular control systems, due to its two-way command set.
Lance Beck, CEO of BitWise Controls, said: "The BC4 will appeal to integrators with its extensive command set, flexibility of field configuration and choice of power supplies. The BC4 can be configured via a web interface. The modular concept also allows better inventory control. Integrators can buy base units in volume and purchase modules to fit the job criteria."
