EDS and Siemens PLM Software Offer Defense Logistics Solution

EDS (News - Alert) and Siemens PLM Software made a joint announcement that they will both deliver the Defense Logistics Solution. This will employ the EDS extensive aerospace and defense (A&D) logistics experience and IT infrastructure services besides Siemen’s PLM Software’s Teamcenter software portfolio.

The Defense Logistics Solution allows aerospace and defense OEMs, suppliers and agencies to reduce time, expense and risk connected with defense logistics and performance-based logistics. Product quality, tracking of product and getting feedback to further improve products are the advantages attributed to the solution.

“As the A&D manufacturer’s business ally, EDS brings extensive experience and service expertise in the implementation and management of defense logistics and MRO business activities,” said Joan Davies, EDS segment leader of aerospace and defense.

“Together with Siemens (News - Alert) PLM Software, we can deliver a best-in-class solution for managing supply chains, support processes, assets and metrics associated with PBL programs, which can be rapidly deployed and operational, while maintaining the flexibility to adjust to varying customer requirements,” added Davies.

EDS will be supporting with logistics and A&D experience, local presence and IT solutions for integrating people, systems and processes for offering an effective solution for PBL programs. The solution, based on Siemens PLM Software’s Teamcenter software portfolio, offers maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). The solution is most suitable for long-lifecycle products like aircraft, weapon systems, ships and power plants.

“Today’s announcement represents a major step forward for our defense industry customers who need to expeditiously fulfill PBL contracts and drive profitability,” said Steve Bashada, vice president of Teamcenter Applications, Siemens PLM Software.

He added that with EDS his company has created a flexible turnkey offering that will not only streamline the planning and deployment of the IT infrastructure and security requirements associated with PBL contracts, but also greatly simplify their administration.

PBL contracts offer a set of performance metrics by which manufacturers, systems integrators and enterprises are measured against. For maximizing profits defense contractors have to reduce time consumed for executing any PBL contract besides tracking and measuring their progress against the PBL metrics. Here the Defense Logistics Solution combines service data management and logistics records management capabilities in the Teamcenter solution for MRO along with EDS services and capabilities.

EDS offers business solutions and delivers information technology and business process outsourcing services to clients in manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, communications, energy, transportation, consumer and retail industry sectors besides governments.
