“We are excited by the opportunity to apply nCipher’s market leading key management technologies alongside Oracle’s proven industry-leading database encryption solution, which allow customers to safeguard sensitive data without any application changes,” said Richard Moulds, executive vice president of product strategy at nCipher, in a statement. “By integrating nCipher key management solutions customers can increase the overall security of their deployment by protecting encryption keys and enforcing the policies that underpin their use.”
Organizations are facing increased pressure to ensure the protection of confidential and sensitive data like social security numbers and credit card account information due to growing rates of identity frauds. While governments have also raised the standards of such regulations, organizations now prefer the encryption method for meeting such standards.
“Customers are increasingly adopting encryption as the industry best practice for protecting data-at-rest,” saikd Vipin Samar, vice president of database security at Oracle, in a statement. “The Oracle Database 11g Advanced Security option for Transparent Data Encryption includes numerous enhancements that optimize performance and ease deployment with key management systems such as nCipher, a recognized leader among security-conscious organizations for more than 10 years.”
While the hardware security module (HSM) has been established as a reliable platform for key management by securely creating, using and storing keys; it is also a critical policy enforcement point which can be employed for the establishment of strong authentication rules for administrators. By establishing shared responsibilities through its dual control mechanisms, HSMs can also help prevent the risks that come with super-user privileges.
While varied privacy mandates demand for the division of duties, HSMs deliver a natural separation between key management and traditional database administration’s functions, thus meeting such demands.
nCipher provides solutions in the fields of identity management, data protection, enterprise key management and cryptographic hardware and also helps businesses to comply with privacy-driven regulations. The Oracle PartnerNetwork program provides partners with resources and solutions based on Oracle software through access to its premier products.
