Jelastic Intros Java PaaS Providing Application Compatibility and Developer Control

Jelastic, developers of a platform-as-a-service infrastructure environment for Java application development, announced an innovative new feature for ensuring automated high availability of Java applications.

In a release Ruslan Synytsky, founder and CEO of Jelastic said, “Jelastic has brought the beauty of Platform-as-a-Service to the hosting industry and became the industry’s first Java platform-as-a-service providing full application compatibility and developer control.”

“Running on Jelastic is the only choice for Java developers who want to get started in minutes and avoid lock-in. Successful developers spend their time writing code and building cutting-edge technology. They do not spend all day managing and configuring servers and worrying about infrastructure issues. Jelastic’s technology makes all of this possible and it is as easy as pointing and clicking,” Synytsky added.

This is a simple application which requires the developer to just click on the “High Availability” button in environment configuration to active the capabilities. Jelastic then clusters each application server with another application server that runs on a separate virtual machine and replicates sessions between them.

Besides, it also automatically performs the configuration alignment that is required on the load balancer besides also enabling cookie-based/sticky sessions. This ensures the resiliency that is needed in high availability infrastructures.

According to officials in case one application server fails or is stopped owing to maintenance or application upgrades then the alternate machine will continue to run off the stored sessions it was sharing within the cluster.

The automated vertical scalability feature within Jelastic adds memory and processing resources to machines as and when required. This architecture ensures that a server failure does not result in service deterioration. Also its cluster companion gets the sessions that the failed machine used to serve besides also the CPU and RAM (News - Alert) that used to serve them.

This process is seamless, instant, and does not require manual intervention. Again end-users will not be able to decipher the changes that have taken place. Automation of cloud hosting provides enhanced uptime and infrastructure performance. It mitigates human error and allows developers to focus on application development, emphasized officials.

Jelastic runs any Java application in the cloud without making code changes and without writing for specific APIs or application programming interfaces. Java is the programming language used by nine million Java developers worldwide.

Application developers have the flexibility to add stack components that they prefer. This includes various application servers such as Tomcat, GlassFish and Jetty; databases like MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB; nginx load balancer and Maven build system. Their application will run and can scale easily on the Jelastic platform, added officials.

ServInt, a provider of managed hosting for enterprises announced in October 2011 that it is the exclusive North American launch partner for Hivext Technologies’ cloud-based Java development platform, known as Jelastic. ServInt also announced the North American launch of a limited-time, free beta test of the Jelastic PaaS platform.
