Mindspeed Technologies (News - Alert), Inc., a leading provider of network infrastructure semiconductor solutions to the communications industry, recently reported that its Comcerto multi-core system-on-chip (SoC) embedded packet processors have proved extremely successful.
In a press release, the company claimed that it has shipped five million 1000 processors for customer premises equipment (CPE), including residential gateways and broadband home routers (BHRs).

Mindspeed's Comcerto 1000 processor features a state-of-the-art QoS hardware capability that enables flawless, simultaneous streaming of voice, high-definition (HD) grade video and data applications.
The Comcerto 1000's unique, programmable software architecture enables manufacturers to offer multiple system solutions for various deployments ranging from fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) based triple play gateways to 3G/4G-routers and WiMAX (News - Alert) integrated access devices (IADs), Mindspeed explained in the release.
Mindspeed recently extended its Comcerto 1000 family to enable a new category of CPE service offload platform (SOP) hardware that can be used with existing BHRs in the connected home.
“Our Comcerto 1000 processor has particularly strong penetration in the BHR market, where we are playing an important role in this segment's rapid expansion and evolution. We continue to deliver a growing range of capabilities on the multi-core SoC foundation of our Comcerto processor, which combines performance with extremely low power consumption and carrier-class voice, quality of service (QoS) and reliability. This architecture has proven ideal for value-added services deployment by enabling remotely-managed applications from carriers, or third-party providers, to be run on one core, while the other remains dedicated to primary gateway functionality including voice processing and IPTV (News - Alert) routing,” Naser Adas, vice president and general manager of Mindspeed explained in a statement.
Earlier this month Mindspeed Technologies announced its collaboration with Powerwave Technologies, Inc, a global supplier of advanced solutions for wireless communications networks, to deliver advanced long-term evolution (LTE (News - Alert)) small cell solutions to public safety, military and 4G mobile broadband markets.
