Opengear Donates Equipment to the OpenFlow SDN Interoperability Lab

Opengear (News - Alert), provider of next generation console server and remote management solutions, recently donated equipment to the OpenFlow SDN Interoperability Lab at Indiana University. The equipment included Opengear IM4216 advanced console servers, as well as Opengear IP-KVM1001 KVM over IP switches. The move further demonstrates the support to OpenFlow, an open standard that allows network professionals to easily deploy innovative protocols in networks that include switches, routers and Wi-Fi access points.

Opengear donated equipment to Indiana University's (News - Alert) SDN Interoperability Lab due to the fact that it tests OpenFlow products in a heterogeneous, multi-vendor environment. InCNTRE (Indiana Center for Network Translation Research and Education) and IU's Global Research Network Operations Center (GlobalNOC) handle the operations of the lab.

"After working with Opengear at Interop (News - Alert) Las Vegas, we knew their Advanced Console Servers and KVMs were ideal for Indiana University's new SDN/OpenFlow Interoperability Lab," said Ron Milford, manager of the lab and a network engineer in IU's GlobalNOC, in a statement. "Opengear's generous equipment donation has been a significant help during the lab's development and we look forward to a continued partnership."

"Opengear is very excited about working with Indiana University and the first OpenFlow/SDN network of this scale," said Todd Rychecky, vice president of sales, Opengear North and South America. "It is a unique opportunity to be an integral part of the first production deployment of OpenFlow technology that will allow academic institutions and researchers to experiment with new Internet architectures and collaborate globally."

Opengear designs and manufactures next generation console servers for secure remote access and control of routers, switches, servers, firewalls, uninterruptible power supplies, power distribution units and environmental monitoring devices.

Last year, the company launched ACM5004-G, a new line of smart cellular routers. Company officials said that this new line of smart cellular routers goes well beyond previous generation of routers, revealing that they seamlessly integrate Opengear's advanced router, firewall, power management, environmental monitoring and advanced console server functionality.
