Riverbed's Steelhead Solutions Can Accelerate VMware vSphere Replication

Riverbed (News - Alert) Technology, an IT performance company, asserted that its newly released Steelhead appliance wide area network (WAN) optimization solutions can fasten VMware vSphere Replication.

According to VMware, VMware vSphere Replication is a new feature of VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5 that allows virtual machines (VMs) and their associated data to be replicated within or between local, remote or cloud-based data centers.

vSphere enables users to run business critical applications with confidence and respond faster to their business. VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager, a disaster recovery product for virtualized environment, leverages cost-efficient VMware vSphere Replication to provide centralized management of recovery plans, enable non-disruptive testing, and automate site recovery and migration processes.

Riverbed explained that its Steelhead products accelerate application performance and data transfer over the wide area network (WAN), overcoming bandwidth and geographical limitations to improve productivity and enable global collaboration. With Riverbed, file transfers that once took hours or minutes, now take minutes or seconds. These solutions enable users to realize significant performance gains when replicating large amounts of data across the WAN, while dramatically reducing the recurring costs associated with WAN infrastructure.

VMware noted that VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager complements VMware vSphere Replication, and provides the simplest and most reliable disaster protection and site migration for all applications traveling over the WAN. This joint solution with Riverbed optimizes the WAN traffic, and enables VMware vSphere Replication deployments to perform at near-LAN speeds across long distances, improving business continuity and disaster recovery.

Officials with Riverbed claimed that Riverbed and VMware continue to build and expand their strategic partnership and the solutions they create enable organizations to build high-performance and high-efficiency public, private and hybrid clouds. The new solution integrates the best-of-breed Riverbed Steelhead appliance with VMware vSphere Replication to accelerate disaster recovery and reduce the cost of WAN infrastructure.
