CradlePoint Continues to Offer Secure Solutions at Distributed Enterprises

CradlePoint (News - Alert), a provider of 4G LTE wireless networking solutions for distributed enterprises, has announced CradlePoint Secure Threat Management. It is an Intrusion (News - Alert) Prevention Solution (IPS) integrated with its cloud network management solution called, Enterprise Cloud Manager.

During ITEXPO, Ken Hosac, vice president of Business Development at CradlePoint, told TMC’s (News - Alert) Peter Bernstein that the company’s target customers – who can benefit the most from its solutions – are those in distributed enterprises. They include retail stores or branch offices.

To understand what they do, remember that a few years ago, after Hurricane Katrina, a large insurance company found it could not access its cloud-based applications. CradlePoint provided them with a fail-over solution.

Since then there have been some major retail breaches, such as at Target (News - Alert). “There’s a Hurricane Katrina of retail security going on right now that we’re addressing,” Hosac said.

“Today’s branch office is vulnerable as it struggles with the proliferation of mobile devices and Wi-Fi networks, the lack of support for legacy networks as well as limited to no onsite IT support services,” CradlePoint explained in a recent statement.

In a study, the company said that of 1,300 breaches that attacked a distributed enterprise in 2013, 91 percent originated outside of the company.

“These incidents took just minutes to compromise and weeks to discover,” the company added in the statement. “The introduction of CradlePoint’s Threat Management solution is one component that stifles the attack.”

To further understand the company’s offerings, another element to what they do is called parallel networking. It allows a company to create separate networks that are application specific.

“If someone does breach it,” Hosac says, “there’s nowhere for them to go from there.”

The company also uses a hybrid of cloud-based capabilities and on-premise capabilities, he explained.

Overall, CradlePoint offers secure connectivity to these distributed enterprises. Among its focuses are business continuity, advanced edge routing solutions, machine-to-machine, and primary connections. Solutions are built for PCI (News - Alert)-compliant networks, as well.
