Red Hat Debuts OpenShift Enterprise 2, On-premise Private PaaS Offering

Red Hat (News - Alert), a provider of open source solutions, has introduced the OpenShift Enterprise 2, its on-premise private Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering which will allow customers to increase the velocity, efficiency and scalability of their IT service delivery.

In addition, the OpenShift Enterprise 2 is expected to boost development of new applications and business services at less time-to-market. It features datacenter infrastructure integration, an advanced administration console and support for more programming languages. Its collaboration capabilities and global availability help developers derive private PaaS technology benefits for their cloud deployments.

OpenShift Enterprise was launched previously as a critical component of the company’s open hybrid cloud. It enabled on-demand, elastic, scalable and fully configured application development beside a testing and hosting environment for application developers. Developers were able to focus on coding new application services easily.

Also the solution automates provisioning and systems management of the application platform stack so that IT operations team can satisfy demands for application services. OpenShift Enterprise is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat JBoss enterprise application platform and OpenShift origin, said officials.

OpenShift Enterprise 2 incorporates many new features that make it easy for private PaaS to be used and implemented. It features powerful datacenter infrastructure integration so that deployment of OpenShift on OpenStack via OpenStack Orchestration (Heat) templates is easy.

This facilitates OpenShift’s plugin-based integration with external router and load balancer infrastructure in addition to enabling a streamlined OpenShift enterprise installer. Hence IT is able to leverage cloud computing rapidly.

The new solution offers support to the latest programming languages and allows developers to access most popular programming languages enhancing creativity and innovation. Being multi-language OpenShift Enterprise also offers Node.js for server-side JavaScript.

Officials added that the new collaboration capabilities help developers to share access to their applications for team-based development thereby enabling the enterprise to benefit from community-powered innovations.

Red Hat also announced that it has been named the gold winner for the Northeast region in the 10th annual Team Massachusetts Economic Impact Awards. The awards were given by MassEcon, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The award honors businesses throughout the Commonwealth for their impact and contributions in the areas of job growth, facility expansion, investment and community involvement.
