Imagination Unveils The Latest Version Of PowerVR Graphics SDK

Imagination Technologies (News - Alert) announced the release of the new version of its highly popular PowerVR Graphics Software Development Kit (SDK). The launch of PowerVR Graphics SDK v3.2 coincides with the inauguration of Imagination Developers Connection 2013, a unique platform providing the mobile developer community to leverage PowerVR-based solutions to the best possible extent to create innovative apps and solutions. The new version includes illustrations for OpenGL ES 2.0 extensions, showcasing the advanced functionality for PowerVR Series5XT GPUs. This version also features illustrations for OpenGL ES 3.0, highlighting 3D textures and real-time refractions and reflections.

In a release, Bryce Johnstone, Senior Marketing Manager for Ecosystems at Imagination, said, “At Imagination, we are focusing our efforts on providing the best cross-platform profiling and debugging utilities for developers looking to create applications targeting our PowerVR GPUs and MIPS CPUs. The newly-added functionality, examples and documentation for the recently-released PowerVR Graphics SDK provide unique, valuable resources that position our graphics development environment as the leading solution for graphics development in mobile. In order to ensure developers take full advantage of our hardware IP and software tools, we're now rolling out a series of worldwide events where our developer community is able to directly access detailed information on the underlying processor architecture and how that impacts their code.”

The v3.2 also features an updated PVRTrace, which now supports playback and recording for applications that require multiple threads to function. The static call analysis feature, now incorporated into PVRTrace, automatically detects the use of wrong application programming interface (API) and triggers any perceived performance issues, thus saving a lot of time for developers.

As part of the latest upgrade, PVRTune has been updated to encompass improved profiling for API timing data, PowerVR Series6 GPUs and OpenCL support enabling developers to profile the apps more efficiently. The PowerVR Graphics SDK v3.2 comes with a complete set of tutorials, extensive documentation, source code, highly integrated tools and platform extraction frameworks.

Imagination Technologies is engaged in the development and licensing of processing solutions compatible with communication, multimedia and cloud technologies. The IP software solutions developed by the company for systems-on-chip are accompanied by a suite of tools, software and ecosystems for enabling easy adoption by the developer community. Imagination’s customer profile includes leading names in the networking, semiconductor manufacturing and telecommunications industry.
