Flash Networks Announces Availability of MPEG-DASH Video Optimization

Flash Networks (News - Alert), a provider of mobile Internet optimization and monetization solutions, says its new MPEG-DASH optimization can deliver 30 to 50 percent data reduction without compromising video quality, which in turn significantly enhances customer experience.

Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP MPEG-DASH is an open standard developed under Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) in order to simplify and converge the delivery of IP video, deliver a rich and enjoyable user experience, help bring down costs and eventually enable a better content catalogue to be offered to consumers. The companies participating in the MPEG-DASH standardization include Microsoft (News - Alert), Apple, Netflix, Qualcomm, Ericsson, Samsung, and more. Also the DASH protocol can be deployed using standard Web servers and it works with existing Internet infrastructures, including CDNs, caches, firewalls and NATs.

It’s said that most YouTube (News - Alert) content now is encoded on the MPEG-DASH format and YouTube’s requirements demand a much more sophisticated MPEG-DASH optimization that traditional optimization solutions cannot satisfy. But Flash Networks said that its advanced optimization solution can equip mobile operators to provide a more consistent, higher quality experience to its subscribers.

“Providing exceptional video quality is a huge challenge given the varying types of mobile video traffic that needs to be optimized,” said Ofer Gottfried, chief technology officer at Flash Networks. “At Flash Networks, we continue to invest in research to lead the industry in providing cutting edge mobile video optimization to enable mobile operators to stand out in the crowd and earn lasting subscriber loyalty.”

Flash Networks recently launched the Harmony mobile Internet platform and services that provide a variety of ‘plug-in’ services designed to create a fast, safe, adaptive and personalized user experience while harmonizing network infrastructure for lower capital and operating expenses. The new Harmony Mobile Internet Services Gateway is capable of accelerating LTE (News - Alert) networks by 50 percent and bringing down Web and video traffic data by 30 percent.
