Barracuda X100 and X101 Firewalls Unveiled

Barracuda Networks (News - Alert), a provider of security and storage solutions, stated that its new Barracuda  X100 and X101 firewalls are designed to deliver affordable, easy-to-use next-generation capabilities to small businesses who are looking for a security solution that fits into their constrained IT budget.

Stephen Pao, general manager of security business at Barracuda, commented, “The Barracuda Firewall is ideal for small businesses where employees bring their own laptops and may use social media and other consumer-facing web applications at work. The new Barracuda X100 series empowers administrators, enabling those small businesses to protect their businesses with comprehensive next-generation firewalling, but without the pricing that breaks budgets.”

The Barracuda Firewall is said to be an application-aware network firewall appliance that is designed for organizations without dedicated IT personnel to manage firewalls. It leverages cloud resources to extend next-generation security and networking beyond the capabilities of typical security gateways or legacy firewalls. It supposedly merges application-control and network-security features with cloud technologies to help users realize dynamically scalable malware protection and content filtering.

The new Barracuda Firewall X100, and the Barracuda Firewall X101 with Wi-Fi enable small businesses to avoid tradeoffs between having an enterprise-grade firewall and keeping within resource-constrained IT budgets.

Both the X100 and X101 are stated to go beyond traditional network firewalls and UTMs by providing powerful network security, granular layer 7 application controls, user awareness and secure VPN connectivity combined with cloud-based malware protection, content filtering and reporting.

Some of the notable features of the X100 include: 800 Mbps firewall throughput; 100 Mbps VPN throughput and IPS throughput; next-generation perimeter security; optimize multiple WAN links; user visibility and application awareness; and more.

And some of the notable features of X101 with Wi-Fi include: 4 x Gbe Copper ports; integrated Wi-Fi access point; cloud-based content filtering, malware protection, and reporting; high-performance IDS/IPS; secure VPN with clients for Windows, Mac, and Linux; and more.
