At the recent ISC West conference in Las Vegas, Iveda Solutions announced a new group of cloud video solutions for security and surveillance services, including IvedaMobile and IvedaXchange.
Mesa, AZ-based Iveda develops cloud-based video hosting solutions that support mobile technology and eliminate the need for physical storage or managing software configurations. It provides video surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) and has been recognized as a Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology provider by DHS.
According to Iveda’s website, one of the challenges in video hosting is support for multiple users accessing a camera simultaneously. Most video solutions support single user access to a camera without performance suffering, but video quality and frame speed degrade as more users connect to that camera. Solving the problem would require a data center that can handle the upload bandwidth, an option too expensive for most companies. Iveda addresses that problem with its managed video hosting that can handle multiple user access without performance degrading and businesses having to provide data centers to handle their video content and streaming.
IvedaXChange is a centralized security management system that makes it easier to prevent or respond to incidents and crises. A dashboard screen provides a complete set of information with GPS tracking; feeds from CDC, Amber Alert and local 911 data; sensor alerts; severe weather and cloud video.
IvedaMobile is an app for Android (News - Alert) and iOS mobile devices that hosts audio and video content in the cloud. In other words, it allows one to become a single-person broadcasting center. Live content can be captured and broadcast to multiple users or recorded for future playback.
Other solutions include IvedaXpress and in-vehicle mobile video. IvedaXpress is a simplified surveillance solution that uses a mobile device's built-in camera to provide video at home, in an office or on the road. Video is stored in the cloud and is more secure than physical media that can be stolen or deleted. In-vehicle mobile video can be used by school transportation, law enforcement, emergency responders and public transit to support real-time operations or respond to crises.
To say that cameras are ubiquitous in modern society is like saying that Mount Everest is steep. The technology became so inexpensive that surveillance cameras seem to be everywhere and the cameras built into smartphones often surpass many dedicated camera devices in performance and quality.
One aspect of the technology that did not keep up with the times was the storage and delivery of video content. Thanks to cloud technology from companies like Iveda, this is no longer a problem.
The technology does have some sobering implications, however. In the public view, one is not only being watched, but also recorded permanently.
