Bull Brings High-End Linux Server to the Market

Bull has recently expanded its portfolio of solutions for data centers by launching its bullion servers that run Red Hat (News - Alert) Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization solutions. Bull's new solutions will appear in its presentation in major European countries as part of the Red Hat tour this month.

The CIOs and IT departments of large businesses containing data centers have a number of problems including the fact that the cost of running these data centers is getting higher every year and the technologies they run require specific skills that largely depend on the kind of software they're running. Thus, they're looking for something open-source and standards-based to mitigate this.

Bullion servers have addressed this problem by running Red Hat Enterprise Linux packaged with an open-source PostgreSQL database. The bullion servers also have all the processing power necessary for critical infrastructures.

One company, Brazil's biggest telecom operator called Telefonica (News - Alert)-Vivo, just recently celebrated its 90-millionth subscriber. Amid the celebrations, it chose to equip its data centers with bullion and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for critical operations.

"We need to rely on partners who are committed and able to support us in this journey to the highest level of quality," said Christaine Edington, CIO at Telefonica-Vvo. "We have been working with Bull for many years on our business applications, notably billion, fraud management, and mediation. With the purchase of bullion servers, we have reached a whole new level. Bullion servers turned out to be a very appropriate solution when compared with other high-availability servers on the market."

The bullion server is a high-performance piece of equipment, with one rack-mountable unit containing up to four CPU sockets (up to 40 cores), availability to install up to one TB of memory, and six PCI (News - Alert)-e slots.
