OpenStack systems integrator Mirantis today finalized $10 million in growth capital financing from high-profile investors including Dell Ventures, Intel Capital (News - Alert) and WestSummit Capital. The company uses an efficient delivery model combined with intellectual property to make building a vendor-agnostic OpenStack cloud quick and easy.
Indeed, Mirantis has been an OpenStack advocate since the beginning of the cloud and open source application infrastructure and recently partnered with Dell (News - Alert) and Intel to form the new OpenStack Foundation. As such, it should come as no surprise that this investment will be used to accelerate Mirantis' growth in the OpenStack market, while remaining true to its focus of providing a vendor-neutral implementation of OpenStack.
"We believe that OpenStack is on its way to becoming a universal control plane for the entire application infrastructure fabric," said Adrian Ionel, president and CEO of Mirantis, in a statement. "This phenomenon is transforming the industry. To help accelerate this transformation in a meaningful way, we need strong strategic investors like Dell Ventures, Intel Capital, and WestSummit Capital. We consciously picked investors who aligned with us on vision and our commitment to accelerate OpenStack adoption around the world."
Mirantis boasts the largest pool of OpenStack engineering expertise in the market today. The company uses this expertise to help service providers, SaaS (News - Alert) vendors and enterprises build and run the OpenStack cloud infrastructure, aiding customer in more than 30 OpenStack deployment projects in the past year and a half. Customers Mirantis has helped to adopt OpenStack include NASA, WebEx, Gap, PayPal (News - Alert), Internap and AT&T.
Last September, Mirantis began establishing a dedicated OpenStack contributions team, which includes a pool of five engineers, exclusively dedicated to working on strategic and significant OpenStack features, then contributing them to the open source community.
A month prior to this, the company's co-founder Boris Renki spoke at the OpenStack APAC conference in Beijing, on the topic "How to Make Money on OpenStack."
