The highly innovative OnApp keeps on growing and remains competitive in its sector. It is poised to compete with the likes of Amazon and Akamai (News - Alert) in the cloud and CDN markets. New products are being offered and it has deployed hundreds of new clouds.
“Really what it’s all about is helping these service providers compete effectively with the likes of Amazon Web Services,” Kosten Metreweli (News - Alert), OnApp’s chief marketing officer, told TMC CEO Rich Tehrani in a recent interview.
That is impressive since Amazon has more than 50 percent of the public cloud market, OnApp said.
OnApp is a solid competitor, too. OnApp’s federated CDN platform for service providers, called “OnApp CDN,” has increased to 60 locations in just half a year. It is bigger than twice the size of Amazon CloudFront, OnApp says. The company’s CDN platform was just launched during the fourth quarter of 2011. OnApp CDN is just one of the federated cloud applications planned by OnApp.
In addition, OnApp deployed over 800 clouds for more than 300 providers in the last two years alone, the company said in a recent statement.
Its software powers cloud, content delivery network (CDN) and storage services for companies found globally. Among its products are OnApp Cloud, a cloud platform for hosts and service providers, and OnApp Storage, an economical distributed storage area network (SAN) designed for cloud environments. OnApp Storage is designed for service providers and enterprises. It makes cloud infrastructure a scalable, resilient and efficient SAN, the company said. OnApp Storage is currently in a public beta version.
OnApp started operations in July 2010, and it now has over a hundred employees working in Europe, the United States and the Asia-Pacific region.
Among its benefits are expertise in deep cloud hosting; relatively low set-up costs for clouds; IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second) management and flexible storage; and strength in customer support.
In light of company achievements, OnApp was given Red Herring’s (News - Alert) Top 100 Europe award. The company was selected for being an innovative and unique startup in Europe. OnApp has a federated cloud and a CDN platform that lets service providers compete with companies such as Amazon and Akamai.
