Insyde Software Develops Android Version for Intel Studybook

Insyde Software announced that it collaborated with Intel (News - Alert) in developing a customized version of the Android that will be made available with the Intel studybook.

Taiwan-based Insyde provides Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) BIOS, UEFI-based firmware, Linux and Android (News - Alert) software solutions and engineering services. Its clients include companies in the mobile, server, desktop and embedded computing industries.

In a release Steve Chen, VP of Android Development, at Insyde Software, said, “We are proud to be working with Intel EMPG on the studybook project. Not only do we bring Android systems integration knowledge to this project, but we are the only software company that can also supply the necessary firmware, operating system switching technology and BSP (board support package) as needed.”

Intel’s Education Market Platform Group, or EMPG, will offer the Intel studybook. It is a purpose-built rugged tablet that comes equipped with classroom-ready features and specialized educational software.

Insyde engineers worked with Intel’s Taipei Lab team and conducted extensive Android systems integration, customization and debugging tasks.

It was revealed that Insyde Software will keep the Intel study book ready for demonstration at Computex Taipei, scheduled to take place till June 8, 2012.

Raju Doshi, director of marketing of Intel’s Education Market Platform Group, remarked, “We are thrilled to be working with Insyde Software to help us fulfill our vision of bringing affordable education devices to students and teachers worldwide. Insyde played an important role in ensuring the Android operating system was customized to meet the specific needs of our education market customers.”

Recently, Insyde Software announced that its touch-based computing solutions are being leveraged by leading tablet OEMs and ODMs to speed their time to market and enable unique features in these consumer-friendly devices.

The solution is based on Insyde’s flagship UEFI BIOS product, InsydeH2O, which optimizes the leading hardware platforms from AMD (News - Alert), Intel, TI and others that OEMs and ODMs use to power their touch-based products.
