NIST Recognizes CipherCloud's AES Encryption Algorithm Implementation

CipherCloud has announced that its implementation of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption algorithm has been certified as U.S. FIPS PUB 197 (FIPS 197), validation number 1976.

“Reaching this certification achievement speaks to our mission to provide the industry's most secure encryption solutions for our customers who are concerned about security, privacy, and compliance of their sensitive data in the cloud,” said Varun Badhwar, vice president of product strategy at CipherCloud.

National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has now officially recognized CipherCloud’s AES encryption algorithm implementation. Company officials said that it’s the first publicly accessible and open cipher approved by the National Security Agency (News - Alert) (NSA) for top secret information.

AES, which is instituted as a federal government standard in 2002, is the security benchmark for the encryption of electronic data. In addition, it’s also a mandatory requirement for many federal and global agencies.

Noting that the FIPS 197 certification demonstrates CipherCloud’s commitment to providing security that meets the highest government standards, Shahed Latif, partner at KPMG Advisory and co-author of Cloud Security & Privacy, said that as a result, CipherCloud can offer its customers the additional peace of mind of knowing that the company's AES offering have been tested by an accredited third-party, as well as validated by NIST.

CipherCloud provides a unified cloud encryption gateway with award-winning technology to encrypt sensitive data in real time before it’s sent to the cloud. The CipherCloud Gateway incorporates a number of military-grade, AES-based format and operations preserving encryption schemes that can be used to secure cloud-bound data before it leaves the enterprise network.

Company officials said that it provides a single gateway as a platform that secures sensitive customer data across multiple public and private cloud applications, including Salesforce, Chatter and Amazon Web Services.

Badhwar said that CipherCloud is the only company that offers format and operations preserving encryption solutions for cloud services, like salesforce.com, that have received the FIPS 197 accreditation.

“We believe this certification presents new opportunities for CipherCloud to serve enterprises and government organizations that require greater assurance to protect their sensitive data,” Badhwar said.

Last month, the company joined the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) as a Corporate Member.
