Oracle Debuts StorageTek Tape Analytics Software

The newly unveiled Oracle (News - Alert) StorageTek Tape Analytics is an intelligent monitoring and management software designed for Oracle’s StorageTek tape libraries and is capable of offering superior scalability and security from a single pane of glass.

Until now tape management solutions have been employing a reactive approach but Oracle StorageTek is following a new proactive approach to remove library, drive, and media errors thorough an intelligent monitoring software application available exclusively for Oracle’s StorageTek tape libraries. The software eliminates manual intervention and can enhance operational efficiency and the proactive approach to tape management is purported to help storage administrators realize significant time and cost savings.

Oracle claimed that the software is capable of delivering insights into more than 100 detailed drive, media, and library health attributes that empower tape storage administrators to make proactive decisions about their tape environments prior to device failures.

Some of the notable features of StorageTek Tape Analytics Software are: based on Oracle Fusion Middleware code base; multi-manufacturer tape drive monitoring; multivendor media support; monitoring of geographically dispersed tape environments from a single pane of glass; engineered exclusively for StorageTek tape libraries; and more.

“Oracle’s StorageTek Tape Analytics software allows customers better insight into the health of their tape environments and arms them with the information to maximize the value of their storage investments. Ideal for backup and archive data residing locally or in the cloud, Oracle’s approach is secure, efficient and cost effective. Its savings for customers can be quite substantial as it does not require special media, but rather it works with the customer’s existing supported media, regardless of the vendor,” said James Cates, vice president of Hardware Development at Oracle, in a press release.
