Companies Becoming Vulnerable to Data Loss, says Primus

PTGi (Primus Telecommunications (News - Alert) Group Inc.) recently conducted a survey which showed that small and medium business owners and IT decision makers in Canada have become more vulnerable to to the loss of data and the potential for a privacy breach.

The survey, conducted by Primus Business Services, revealed that companies are not able to invest much on data security which leaves them with a chance of a security breach or loss of data that could prove to be disastrous in the future. However, a large number of companies are quite concerned about the data security and are looking for cloud services that feature unified threat management/firewall protection. Also, companies also preferred around-the-clock management and alerting as a key to data security.

Despite being concerned about the data security, 74 percent of the companies don’t have any off-site storage for their data security and 72 percent don’t have arrangements for around-the-clock monitoring of the data. This makes them quite vulnerable to security breach.

Analyzing the results of the survey, a top official from Primus Business Services said that companies need cloud computing partners who can offer cloud firewall solution, 24 x 7 cloud management and cloud backup service. The partners offering cloud firewall solutions should ensure 100 percent network security, email security and web security. Moreover, the partners should have a team of experts which can manage the cloud environment. The cloud backup service will protect the companies from data loss in case of a natural or man-made disaster.

“Cloud computing is still a relative enigma, but its inherit security, cost and most importantly, time management benefits, will imminently bring it into the mainstream of Canadian business,” said Matt Stein, Sr. VP of Network, Technology and Planning at Primus Canada. “However, it is critical that business decision makers look for providers that offer enterprise quality operational, management and security procedures in a truly scalable model.”

In other news, Primus Australia, a part of PTGi (Primus Telecommunications Group, Inc.), recently announced that thanks to its robust network design and redundancy, its IP network didn't skip a beat and its own customers stayed online during an national internet outage on February 23 that reportedly saw millions of customers left without a workable service for approximately 45 minutes.
