By Mini SwamyAre you racking your brain for a forgotten password or are you trying to frantically retrieve a lost one—does that situation sound all too familiar? Yubico, a provider of simple, open online identity protection has just entered into a partnership with Password Tote, an online password manager to prevent all that from ever happening again.
Yubico's YubiKey, a small driverless USB- token provides two-factor authentication that is being strongly advocated by security experts around the globe.
"The depth of security in a two-factor form is created because you are combining something that you know, your password or pin, with something you have to provide such as an OTP. It was very important that we offer our users a second form of authentication to Password Tote to not only increase their peace of mind but as a benefit to our service," said Greg Caiazzo, CEO, Password Tote, in a press release.
With online fraud and identity theft becoming more common, it becomes incumbent on users to not only have a password manager that helps to organize and manage passwords but also to guard against unauthorized access to that list.
The password manager easily manages long and unwieldy passwords that some services require users to have. While this makes it easy for users to create unique and hard to remember passwords and store them in these managers, it also involves an element of risk. There is no guarantee that online criminals and hackers cannot gain access to that list.
One way to get around this is to have a key that unlocks the password manager service. YubiKey fits the bill, as it offers a login to the service which provides that extra layer of security against outside threats and security breaches. More importantly, this solution eliminates the worry of losing or forgetting a login password for online services.
Yubico has had many successful partnerships with online password managers, providing Internet users with increased protection of their passwords and online identities.
In related news, Yubico has revealed that is has partnered with SAPO (News - Alert), Portugal’s largest Internet Service Provider and Web portal. The implementation and deployment of YubiKey’s two-factor authentication hardware provides secure login access to both SAPO employees and the ISP’s end users.
