Timesys, a provider of high-productivity software development framework for embedded Linux applications, has enabled LinuxLink support for PMC-Sierra (News - Alert) WinPath3-SuperLite high-performance System on Chip (SoC).

With LinuxLink for the SuperLite SoC, customers can seamlessly create custom Linux-based products for the high-performance, cost-sensitive, communications market segment including wireless and advanced telecom system applications such as mobile backhaul.

According to PMC-Sierra, the WinPath3-SuperLite is a high-performance System on Chip (SoC) enabled by Wintegra's (News - Alert) WDDI software solutions for cost sensitive applications like Mobile Backhaul, Fixed Wireless Access and 4G Pico Base Stations. It has multi-core packet processors and dedicated hardware accelerators for additional support of Parsing and Classification, Shaping, Policing, Packet Synchronization as well as security.

The initial LinuxLink release for the WinPath3-SuperLite is based on the 2.6.29 Linux kernel which integrates drivers for the reference board peripherals.

LinuxLink provides developers with an interactive, step-by-step wizard that allows them to develop a custom Linux platform by selecting from a wide range of available kernels, tools, software packages and boot loaders. Timesys claimed that thousands of customers have adopted LinuxLink so that they can develop their embedded Linux platform code quickly, securely and efficiently, without having to become experts in navigating the open-source community or maintaining kernels and tool chains.

Officials with PMC-Sierra commented that the popularity of Linux continues to grow, and Timesys LinuxLink provides a proven Linux development solution that complements their product offering. With LinuxLink, customers can take full advantage of the WinPath3-SuperLite advanced architecture, enabling them to create Linux based solutions for the networking and communications market segments and achieve short time-to-market cycles.

TimeSys asserted that LinuxLink continues to be an easy-to-use, affordable development environment for building custom Linux based solutions. The company is pleased to provide PMC-Sierra customers with the ability to create quality, high-performance, Linux-based products using the WinPath3-SuperLite.
