MontaVista CGE 6 Earns Compliance with Linux Foundation's CGL 5.0 Specification

Cavium Networks’s wholly owned subsidiary, MontaVista (News - Alert) Software, LLC, announced that its MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) 6.0 is now compliant with newly released Linux foundation's Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) 5.0 specification.

MontaVista is a provider of embedded Linux commercialization. The company is committed to compliance with the major industry standards. It is also the only company providing Linux distribution in the world to comply with the three key requirements issued by the industry's major standards bodies, such as CGL, Linux Standard Base (LSB), and IPv6.

"As the provider of the world's most widely-deployed carrier grade Linux, MontaVista is committed to rapidly deliver compliant, certified and high-performance operating systems to network equipment providers along with world-class service and support," said Patrick MacCartee, director of product management for MontaVista Software, in a statement.

Designed for telecommunications and data communications industry, the Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) Linux is the only embedded Linux to be Oracle (News - Alert) certified. It is the standard foundation of a COTS Carrier Grade Linux platform.

For those unaware, carrier grade software and hardware products support public telecommunications and data communications networks. In addition, carrier grade products need extremely high degrees of reliability, scalability, and performance to provide an uninterrupted flow of the enormous volume of high-bandwidth data and voice.

Certified to meet the market's exacting performance requirements of high availability, serviceability, hardening, and real-time, the CGE meets the rigorous demands of current as well as future multi-core network infrastructures.

MacCartee added, "We designed our CGE 6 product from the ground up to be compliant with the CGL specification and deliver industry leading networking performance."

According to MontaVista, its Linux Carrier Grade Edition is the most widely deployed carrier grade Linux solution and is used by many network equipment providers (NEPs) such as Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert), Motorola, NEC, and other leading suppliers.

In addition, the CGE’s Oracle certification demonstrates MontaVista's ongoing and continued commitment to CGE interoperability with industry software and hardware, said officials with the company in a press release.

MontaVista’s Bare Metal Engine provides multi-core SoCs with highly sophisticated expertise, thereby aiding in performance enhancement and multi-core designs maximization by exploring multi-core resource management capabilities to the core.

Copies of the CGL5 registration documents are available on MontaVista's website.
