Waterford Township Selects Proficy Software from GE

The Waterford Township Department of Public Works has selected GE’s Proficy Software Platform for multiple projects, GE has announced in a press release.

The Proficy SOA is used as the collaboration technology by the “platform convergence project,” as termed by Waterford. Working closely with the utility’s already implemented Proficy iFIX systems, Proficy Workflow will power the eSOP application, which includes Proficy Historian, Proficy Real-Time Information Portal and Alarm Response Management templates.

With Proficy Workflow, companies can leverage Electronic Work Instructions and Corrective Action to reduce variation in performance, cost and quality - for more consistent work processes, compliance and brand protection. They can also digitize and track work processes ranging from quality management and HACCP monitoring to Emergency Response and troubleshooting / rework.

“Waterford Township is a highly automated department and we are excited to be working with them on a forward-thinking water application,” said Alan Hinchman, global industry manager for GE Intelligent Platforms (News - Alert). “Work on the solution will be collaborative effort by a team comprised of top information technologists from GE’s Technology Center in Michigan and Waterford Township. This platform convergence solution links Waterford Township’s existing HMI/SCADA and GIS-based application to a new eSOP system.”

Helping GE develop innovative new software, processes and technologies to drive excellence in manufacturing for the company and its customers, GE’s Advanced Manufacturing and Software Technology Center is a state-of-the-art information technology and research and development facility. The Center has hired more than 550 new hires and will eventually house the largest concentration of GE IT experts around the globe and brings talented experts at a rate or nearly two people per day.

Recently, the company announced that the company has signed a tie up with National Instruments (News - Alert) to distribute GE Reflective Memory Module solutions. The Reflective Memory will enable National Instrument’s customers to develop real time, deterministic local area networks for challenging testing simulation applications. The GE Reflective Memory Module solution includes the nodes for VME, PCI (News - Alert) and PCI Express systems as well as in a PMC form factor, together with a Reflective Memory Hub.
