Schooner Releases Version 3.0 of Schooner Appliance for MySQL Enterprise with InnoDB

Schooner Information Technology, a provider of solutions to optimize MySQL databases and NoSQL data stores, recently released the 3.0 version of the Schooner Appliance for MySQL Enterprise with InnoDB.

InnoDB is the default storage engine for MySQL that is included as a standard in most binaries distributed by MySQL AB. It provides the standard ACID-compliant transaction features, along with foreign key support.

Schooner’s objective is to help companies’ datacenters achieve optimal scale-up and scale-out when they use the MySQL database, a NoSQL data store, or memcached. The company is not looking to offer a separate rational database but to make the available ones even better, according to a release. The Schooner MySQL software transforms commodity x86 servers and flash memory into easily scalable, highly available super-servers for demanding MySQL deployments.

The solution is termed as a “software appliance” by the company since it tightly pairs the data center or data store with the hardware it uses. It enables balanced use of the processor cores, flash memory and DRAM to deliver exceptional performance with high availability.

The Schooner MySQL is certified by Oracle (News - Alert) as 100 percent compatible, including fully exploiting MySQL replication. The company is also designing a new “Active Cluster” solution that brings high-performance fully-synchronous replication and automated failover to MySQL with InnoDB for a whole new level of enterprise-grade reliability and easy scale-out. The Active Cluster will be made available to users in the first quarter of 2011.

Some of the benefits and features of Schooner MySQL 3.0 include: availability on all widely-used standard x86 servers and blades from Dell, HP and IBM, running Red Hat (News - Alert) Linux 5.4 / 5.5 or CentOS 5.4 / 5.5 and support of all high-performance flash memory in SAS / SATA or PCIe form factors.

Schooner Information Technology officials said as the flash memory has become mainstream, the company generalized its support to all widely-used servers and flash drives while preserving all of the value of its former turnkey approach. With the new version of Schooner's MySQL software, users will get great performance against data sets of any size.
