WinMagic, Inc., specializing in full-disk encryption (FDE), has released SecureDoc v5, a comprehensive full-disk encryption solution that helps organizations seamlessly integrate data protection with existing security policies.
According to company sources, this is expected to help organizations to protect sensitive data in any Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit)/Vista/XP, Mac OS X Tiger/Leopard/Snow Leopard and/or Linux environment easily and cost effectively.
SecureDoc v5 features a single integrated enterprise console for policies and profiles which provides support for Microsoft (News
- Alert) Windows, including Windows 7 64 bit, Mac OS and/or Linux support and OPAL Self-Encrypting Drives (SED).
It also supports full-disk and file folder encryption and removable media encryption besides securing USB encryption, eliminating the need for additional software installation or administration access rights. It also supports Intel Anti-Theft Technology. SecureDoc v5 also provides a multi-language client available in English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, and Spanish, added company officials.
By leveraging the capabilities of SecureDoc, users can centrally-manage self-encrypting drives, including Seagate (News - Alert) Drive Trust Momentus hard drives and Opal compliant drives. It also simplifies deployment of sector-based full-disk encryption, file-and-folder encryption, container encryption and self-extractor encryption.
In case a password is forgotten or the user is unavailable, SecureDoc v5 utilizes centralized escrow and management of encryption keys to help access critical data, confirmed WinMagic sources.
In addition, SecureDoc v5 provides full-disk encryption and encryption management to Intel (News
- Alert) Anti-Theft Technology, which is a laptop theft deterrence mechanism enabling organizations to issue a “poison pill” to disable stolen laptops even if they are not connected to the Internet. This ensures safety of data even if the hard drive is removed and installed on another computer.
Joseph Belsanti, vice president of Marketing for WinMagic, said in a release, “Data protection solutions typically require an organization to invest valuable time and money modifying their existing infrastructure and security policies to accommodate a new encryption layer.”
Belsanti added that SecureDoc v5 can be easily customized to fit existing security policies within any environment enabling customers to add data protection in a real-world heterogeneous environment. It helps customers encrypt data on PC, Mac or Linux clients, encrypt removable media, besides allowing them to leverage new data security technologies like Intel Anti Theft Technology or Self Encrypting Hard Drives.
In short SecureDoc v5 future-proofs IT security spends by ensuring a smooth transition to these technologies and a quick successful deployment under one integrated enterprise server console, he concluded.
