By Sujata GarudA multitouch software and hardware development firm, Ideum, updated the world's most advanced multitouch authoring solution, GestureWorks 2.0, with over 200 built-in gestures.
GestureWorks provides everything Flash and Flex ActionScript 3 developers need to author multitouch applications. A built-in simulator allows developers to test their applications from within the Flash environment.
In addition to the 200 gestures, the software has an open source Gesture Library that is fully extensible; gestures can be added, dropped or modified. The software also enables mapping of gestures for multitouch or dual touch systems and customization for any number of touch points in a system.
In a press release, Jim Spadaccini, the Director of Ideum, said, "GestureWorks 2.0 provides a major step forward for multitouch authoring as it standardizes and simplifies development. The addition of Open Exhibits makes authoring even easier. This community-based approach provides new options for rapid development.”
Support for additional software components is now standard in GestureWorks 2.0. A free collection of user interface and media handling modules and templates from the Open Exhibits software initiative is fully compatible with GestureWorks 2.0. Developers can now plug-in an onscreen keyboard, or images from Flickr and videos from YouTube (News - Alert), or even add a multitouch-enabled Google Map. All module elements can be rotated, dragged, and zoomed.
Recently, Ideum was in news when the company launched new MT-50 multi-touch, multi-user table. The first two MT-50s reportedly will be installed at the Vancouver Aquarium in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in September 2009. Supporting multi-touch and multi-user interactions, the MT-50 has a bright 50" (diagonal) surface with a high-resolution (1280 x 800) display. Ideum claims this display is higher than Microsoft's (News
