Endpoint Security Consortium to Improve Critical Class of Security Products

ICSA Labs, a division of Verizon Business (News - Alert), introduced the Endpoint Security consortium in order to improve the performance of security products in the industry. The objective of the consortium is to create robust security criteria where the end point security products can be certified and tested.

Once the products are tested they can be integrated with Internet security programs. The product portfolio includes personal firewall, anti spyware and a system to detect and prevents unwanted host intrusion.

In a statement, Andrew Hayter, manager of ICSA Labs, said “It now becomes important for the industry to create consistency for the use of these security products and prevent and take care of all types of threats. The development of the security criteria will create a bar against the performance of the products will be measured. The consortium will continue to advance knowledge and implement best practices for endpoint security.”

Suresh Subramaniam, product manager at McAfee (News - Alert), commented, “McAfee is eager to participate in the new endpoint security program and collaborating with the lab to enhance security standards. As a leading security provider, the company is pleased to see the industry work together to develop robust testing standards that will benefit the customers as they can choose the right products with the right type of knowledge.”

At present, the consortium is involved in watching over the draft criteria that lab plans to use for testing its security endpoint solution. Once the consortium accepts the criteria, the ICSA Labs will begin to accept the products for the endpoint security certification testing.
