- Alert), Inc., a worldwide company in precise time and frequency technologies, incorporated IEEE (News - Alert) 1588 precision timing protocol(PTP) capabilities into its SyncServer S300 and S350 network time server products. PTP provides the enhanced time synchronization accuracy that is quickly becoming mandatory for latency sensitive applications found on LANs.
The new PTP features for the SyncServer devices use hardware based, packet-time stamping for nanosecond caliber accuracy and precision, thereby making even more accurate time synchronization possible for PTP clients on the network.
The new capabilities of the SyncServer S300/S350 network time servers further enhance the SyncServer’s role as a time source for secure network timekeeping operations. In addition, the SyncServer has proven PTP client interoperability with FSMLabs’ TimeKeeper software for Linux and the new Domain Time II PTP software for Windows. IT managers can now quickly and easily deploy both the SyncServer and PTP client software to accurately synchronize Linux and Windows-based machines across the network.
Symmetricom’s S300 and S350 SyncServers with PTP provide extremely robust hardware time stamp accuracy servicing over 4000 delay request messages per second, all with less than 25 nanosecond time stamp accuracy. Unlike software time stamping, hardware time stamping removes all internal asymmetric paths delays and related errors caused by the operating system. The result is far better time synchronization accuracy between the SyncServer and the PTP client.
The new PTP option for the S300/S350 SyncServers delivers best of Enterprise class performance in a single NTP/PTP grandmaster clock. The new features interoperate with IEEE 1588 PTP version 2 software slaves. The S300/S350 provides the following key PTP features and benefits: a combination enterprise NTP/PTP time server, Nanosecond accurate PTP time stamps, tracking of PTP slave activity on the SyncServer, performance monitoring of PTP traffic load on the SyncServer.
For the S350, time interval measurements and statistics for measuring hardware-based PTP slave accuracy relative to the SyncServer.
The IEEE 1588 PTP features for the SyncServer S350 and S300 products are now available.
