Logicworks Announces Beta Release of Cloud Computing Service, infiniCloud

Logicworks, an enterprise hosting provider launched infiniCloud, a cloud computing service suitable for commercial and enterprise-level projects.

Logicworks (News - Alert) President and COO, Kenneth Ziegler, said in a press release, “To date, cloud computing has mostly been used as a testing and development tool or a method to offload non-critical applications or content.”

“When we talk about moving ‘real apps’ into the cloud, we’re targeting profit-centers like primetime media sites, financial and healthcare applications, massive multiplayer online games, and e-commerce. There is a real need in market place for the blending of dynamic cloud computing and managed hosting for high-performance applications. We’ve built our managed cloud services to address this need, starting with infiniCloud,” Ziegler added.

Company sources added that infiniCloud is capable of ensuring optimum performance, integrated managed services and seamless migration and integration with existing enterprise IT.  infiniCloud also provides an easy adoption path using which enterprises can make their initial move onto the cloud besides enabling a powerful evolution path that can adapt to handle mission-critical applications.

Logicworks constructed infiniCloud to offer real infrastructure for real applications. infiniCloud was built with state-of-the-art, high-performance hardware featuring Xeon Westmere processors, 40 Gbps storage networking and the option for SATA or 15K SAS (News - Alert) RAID 10 disk arrays. This infrastructure can offer greater consistency across virtual machines required for supporting profit-center applications.

Enabling a full suite of managed services infiniCloud offers value-added services for application monitoring, server patching, firewall security, intrusion detection (IDS), database clustering, PCI (News - Alert), HIPAA, and SAS-70 Type II Compliance, CDN, load balancing, traffic management and disaster recovery.

Logicworks sources added that it can manage the process of cloud capacity planning, migrating existing apps into infiniCloud and integrating infiniCloud with in-house IT.  Enterprises leveraging the capabilities of virtualization already can import and export virtual machines to and from Logicworks in both open-source cloud and VMware formats.

It is possible for Logicworks’ engineers to seamlessly move virtual machines between infiniCloud, in-house IT and other systems in the company such as private clouds, dedicated servers and managed database clusters.

According to company sources the infiniCloud beta will run through the end of 2010. This will be followed by a full public release in January 2011.  infiniCloud is an on-demand service priced according to RAM (News - Alert)-hour, storage and bandwidth utilization.
