Bricsys' CAD Platform Available for Linux Operating System

Bricsys has said that Bricscad V10 is the first .dwg based CAD platform available for the Linux Operating System.

An alternative to CAD platform for the .dwg file format, Bricscad V10 continues to offer freedom of choice to the CAD and Engineering community, said company officials.

Company officials said that the Linux community had no access to .dwg based CAD, which is commonly accepted as the standard CAD file format. Bricscad V10 for Linux solves the problem, eliminating the need to stick with the Windows OS because .dwg based CAD is required.

Calling the introduction of Bricscad V10 for Linux as a “milestone” for the company, Erik De Keyser, CEO at Bricsys, said that despite doubts of many about the viability of a native Linux based professional CAD product, “we are convinced that there is a strong demand for it and a huge potential for applications.”

Bricscad V10 for Windows comes with a rich set of API’s. Company officials said that today more than 500 Third party application developers are in the process of porting their applications to Bricscad V10 and 155 applications are released.

Bricsys is a global provider of engineering software. The product portfolio consists of Bricscad design software and Vondle, a cloud application for document and data management.

This newest release of Bricscad V10 for Linux comes immediately with the complete LISP, DCL and Diesel API’s. Company officials said that encryption is available for commercial LISP based applications and users can run their LISP routines without any modification.

Depending on the demand of application developers, the company plans to extend the set of API’s for the Linux platform. Initially, Bricscad is expected to support three Linux flavors: Fedora 12 or higher, OpenSuse 11.1 or higher and Ubuntu (News - Alert) 9.10 or higher.
