What Is Password Reset Software?

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Making sure your password is constantly protected is something every business must be aware of. If you do in fact need to change your password, password reset software helps make the process much simpler for the user.

There are many different types of password reset software on the market today. One type of software available is self-service password reset, which is a technology that lets users who have either forgotten their password or have been locked out of their account repair their own problem, without calling the help desk.

This is a common feature that is found in password management software and often comes as part of the same software package as a password synchronization option does. Password synchronization is when a user only needs to remember one password to access all confidential documents.

Users who have forgotten their password can utilize the self-service application from either the web or through a telephone call. Users prove who they are through answering multiple questions and can then either configure a password, or ask that a random one be given to them.

Self-service password reset software allows users to quickly fix their own problems without having to wait for a help desk to provide them with a new password. This helps to greatly improve the level of productivity at any company and allows the help desk to focus on more important tasks.

Password reset software helps to ensure that secure passwords can be easily changed in a timely manner.
