What is Password Reset Software?

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Do you use a good chunk of your day simply resetting passwords for employees? You no longer need to worry about that thanks to Thycotic’s Password Reset Software.

Companies can drastically cut the amount of calls that Help Desks receive from employees who have once again forgotten their passwords, instead allowing employees to reset their own forgotten passwords through a series of secure questions and images, and even telephone verification.

Because it is a self-service end-user password reset tool, the Password Reset Software combines an extremely high level of security with a simple user-friendly interface, as well as meeting Section 508 compliance standards.

The 508 Compliant format enables the Password Reset Software to be accessible to disabled users. This law requires all Federal agencies to ensure their software applications are accessible to people with disabilities, and Password Reset Software was created with this requirement at the forefront of its design.

Users can reset forgotten AD passwords directly from their workstation. This is because Password Reset Software can seamlessly integrate alongside the Windows Logon screen. Just clicking on the "Forgot Password" icon brings up the Password Reset Software dialog and requires the user to enter their Active Directory username. Their identity is then confirmed by a customized security policy, and the password is now reset.

Most people find it easier to recognize an image than text-based passwords, so Password Reset Software has the ability to offer graphical images as an option to authenticate end-users during the reset process.

It is crucial to have the highest level of security available to a self-serve password reset tool. By implementing the phone verification feature to the multi-layered verification process, an extra level of security can help to make sure the identity of the user requesting the reset is actually that person.

Password Reset Software automatically calls the registered phone number for that user account and provides a random pin code. The end-user enters the pin code as a part of the reset process. If the pin code is not entered or is wrong, then the reset will not go through. If the pin code is correct, the end-user will be able to reset their password at the end of the reset process.

With this software, users have the ability to fully customize reset procedures for specific users—based on the individual Active Directory OU structure. Security Policies can be changed and adapted in order to coincide with the level of trust for user types.

Ease of adoption of this application is because of the Enrollment Notification feature. Administrators can send reminders to users through an email that lives within the application, and then continuously track to see what the enrollment status is. End-users can choose their answers, and then can be trained on image recognition, or multi-factor information for either a phone or SMS/email.

Password Reset Software offers tracking tools so employers know who has enrolled and who needs to be reminded. Enrollment can be included in an individualized corporate security policy.
