Texas Instruments Brings AM3517 and OMAP3530 Processors to the QNX CAR Application Platform

NUREMBERG, Germany, March 3, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- embedded world 2010 -- QNX Software Systems, a Harman International company (NYSE: HAR), and Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today announced that TI is providing pre-integrated hardware support for the QNX(R) CAR application platform.

Building upon their strategic partnership, QNX Software Systems and TI will provide automakers and tier one automotive suppliers with pre-assembled reference implementations, including both software and hardware, for the rapid prototyping and development of automotive infotainment systems and digital instrument clusters.

The collaboration will allow QNX CAR participants to take advantage of TI's AM3517 and OMAP3530 processors, both of which are based on the highly popular ARM architecture.

The QNX CAR application platform speeds the development of in-car systems through a broad ecosystem of pre-integrated technologies, including products from Adobe, Apple, Google, Gracenote, Microsoft, Pandora, TCS, TI, and others. Launched in February 2009, the platform has attracted more than 50 technology partners and automotive customers and is already being designed into 2011 vehicles.

"To build their next-generation systems on time and on budget, our automotive customers need tightly integrated hardware and software, from the processor level all the way up to the application level," said Curt Moore, general manager, AEC-Automotive Business at TI. "QNX Software Systems is a key partner in helping us to attain this level of integration and to accelerating our growth in the automotive infotainment market." "TI not only provides a compelling processor roadmap for our joint automotive customers, but has developed a business and support model that nurtures customers and helps enable their success -- all of which makes TI a highly valued partner for the QNX CAR application platform," said Andrew Poliak, automotive segment manager at QNX Software Systems.

As an automotive market leader, QNX Software Systems has licensed its software technology for more than 12 million in-vehicle systems worldwide, in vehicles from Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Daimler, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Ssangyong, Toyota, Volkswagen, and others.
