What is Enterprise Password Management?

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Any businesses’ most valuable secrets are confidential passwords. By utilizing enterprise password management software, companies can control access to all of the important passwords in one central database.

Password management software gives employees the ability to securely store, give out, and audit secrets such as router passwords and service accounts. Many users can be managed in one group which works great for large scale enterprise password management. The fact that each user needs to only remember one username and password makes this system incredibly successful.

Through this software, users even have the option to change their password remotely. This allows consumers to be anywhere in the world while still maintaining a secure account.

Two-factor authentication is an important element of enterprise management software at it requires two completely different forms of identification, instead of one single password. Sometimes employees provide a weak password that anyone who knows them could easily guess, so two-factor authentication solves this problem by making the person wishing to change their password offer two different types of ID which guarantees they are who they say they are.

Most enterprise password management software systems are web-based and can be accessed from any computer that has an internet connection. Nowadays, as most people own smart phones and handheld devices, the software is fully compatible allowing users to manage their passwords while on-the-go.

By implementing enterprise password management software into daily business activities, anyone involved in the enterprise can rest assured that all passwords will remain secure, no matter who tries to retrieve them.
