Network security and unified threat management (UTM) solution provider Fortinet (News - Alert) has announced that its FortiWeb-1000B Web application firewall appliance has successfully hurdled the Web Application Firewall Certification offered by ICSA labs, the independent division of Verizon Business (News - Alert) that performs certification and vendor-neutral security product testing. The FortiWeb-1000B successfully passed security policy enforcement regarding the protection of HTTPS and HTTP Web-based applications.

The Web Application Firewall Certification has been developed to aid security managers who may need vendor-neutral reports regarding product effectiveness. Companies developing Web application firewall (WAF) products and which wish to have them certified by ICSA Labs must have crafted them well enough for them to pass the exacting performance, platform security and functional requirements that ICSA Labs uses as standards.

Fortinet's FortiWeb XML and Web application product line offers buyers protection, balance and acceleration of databases, Web applications and the information they work with and exchange. FortiWeb is designed for medium to large enterprises, SaaS (News - Alert) providers and application services.

It improves the security of confidential information, protects Web-based applications and helps with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI (News - Alert) DSS) and regulatory compliance. Going beyond traditional Web application firewalls, FortiWeb offers application acceleration, XML security enforcement and server load balancing.

Brian Monkman, Web application firewall program manager for ICSA Labs, said that FortiWeb-1000B is the latest in an enduring series of the company's products that have successfully been certified by ICSA Labs and which therefore showcase Fortinet's commitment to security.

Michael Xie, chief technology officer and vice president of engineering at Fortinet, said that because the network security landscape is constantly in flux, it is vital for vendors to be up-to-date regarding certifications. FortiWeb's certification serves to highlight Fortinet's validated product portfolio. The company, said Xie, is happy to have yet another Fortinet appliance added to the roster of ICSA Labs certified products.
