F5 Networks Unveils Application Hosting Solution for Oracle Database

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

F5 Networks, a developer of application delivery network (AND) solutions, announced the availability of a new Application Ready Solution for Oracle (News - Alert) Database technologies.

With this new app, F5 is delivering the application hosting capabilities designed specifically to suit the database for the first time.

F5 has collaborated with Oracle on a number of solutions involving applications and middleware deployments -- the new solution expands their collaboration to database environments.

According to company officials, by integrating BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager and WAN Optimization Module of F5 with Oracle Database, the new solution offers optimized performance for joint customers.

Tim Shetler, vice president of product management at Oracle, said, "By utilizing F5's BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager and WAN Optimization Module with the Oracle Database, customers benefit from simplified database administration and accelerated database replication over the WAN."

F5 Network’s Application Ready Solution provides improved health monitoring and connection management capabilities. These functionalities help IT teams react in conditions that affect database servers and their performance levels.

According to company officials, BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager from F5 acts as a mediator to Oracle Database servers, thereby examining their health conditions, and enables to manage connections from application to database for added efficiency.

Another feature of F5 Network’s Application Ready Solution is that the BIF-IP WAN Optimization Module helps to reduce the volume of data transmitted over WAN during data replication.

In-addition, BIG-IP solutions can speed up database replication by nine times when transmitted over bandwidth-constrained network environments, even by offloading all processing for network compression, network optimization and SSL encryption from Oracle Database servers.

Jon Oltsik, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, said, "IT managers and database administrators are continually looking for ways to effectively maintain database environments while limiting the amount of manual intervention required."

“Assuring business continuity and disaster recovery with large databases can make it difficult to meet SLAs for recovery time objectives and recovery point objectives,” Oltsik added. “By providing tools for enhanced database health monitoring and centralized management, F5 and Oracle solutions can help IT teams improve database efficiencies and reduce operations costs.”

In July, F5 Networks hit headlines when it announced its BIG-IP Edge Gateway (News - Alert) remote access solution has achieved Secure Sockets Layer-Transport Layer Security or “SSL-TLS” Virtual Private Networking (VPN) Certification version 3.0 from ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon (News - Alert) Business.
