Panvidea Picks Joyent's Smart Technology Application Hosting Infrastructure

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Panvidea has selected Joyent, a company specializing in application hosting solutions, and its Smart Technology infrastructure to serve as the underlying computing architecture of its professional video service.

SwitchCloud I.C.E -- the United States Inter-Cloud Exchange -- is expected to host the technology that supports this joint initiative.

The union of three leaders in enterprise services represents an “unprecedented” collection of resources, technologies, and expertise that promises to transform the way in which content owners prepare their video content for multi-screen distribution, said David Young (News - Alert), CEO at Joyent.

Panvidea is a provider of technology-enabled digital media services. The company expects to strengthen its position as a major cloud-based video processing and distribution tools provider for the professional content community.

In addition, it also expects to build on the enhanced broadcast-ready feature set that has attracted the attention of clients such as A&E Television Networks, FOX Broadcasting Company and Getty Images.

Joyent SmartMachines are optimized for software applications. In addition to improving application performance, the company's integrated stack of enterprise-class technologies is designed to solve capacity problems and reduce costs for business-critical applications.

“We selected Joyent because they are the only cloud infrastructure company that has built a complete technology stack from the ground up to support a major public cloud solution," said Chris Cali, co-founder and CEO of Panvidea.

Cali said that their innovative technology will allow the company to offer customers “significantly” improved video processing performance, scalability and reliability, along with the rock solid security and fiber channel connectivity provided by the partners at Switch.

The Switch SuperNAP is an ultra-scale data center and it serves as the foundation for SwitchCloud I.C.E. It’ll provide the colocation, bandwidth, and connectivity for Panvidea's enhanced video service.

Company officials said that the SuperNAP’s blend of collocation, advanced cloud computing platforms, and fiber-rich communication gateway will provide Panvidea’s customers with immediate access to mission critical infrastructure.

“The world’s prominent content companies and advertisers will have easy access to Panvidea’s enterprise level media services," said Rob Roy, CEO at Switch, adding that this is a “great example” of how companies benefit from Joyent's smart computing delivered from SwitchCloud I.C.E to achieve new service benchmarks with high performance cloud platforms.

Earlier last month, Panvidea announced broad and comprehensive support for Google's (News - Alert) new WebM project, along with Adobe, Microsoft, and more than forty other publishers, software and hardware vendors.
