Apparent Networks Unveils Application Hosting Solution

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Apparent Networks, a provider of remote performance management solutions, has unveiled AppView, a collection of application-specific modules that bring the capabilities and value of Apparent Networks (News - Alert) performance management solutions to the application-specific perspective.

Officials with Apparent Networks said that the launch of AppView Voice will be the first of several modules that will generate and analyze application traffic on a production network without using software agents or application infrastructure.

Company officials said that AppView shows the detailed relationship between the application and the network, and the impact they are having on each other in both remote and local sites.

“The AppView modules provide visibility into how the network is impacting application performance and how applications are impacting network performance,” said Jim Melvin, CEO of Apparent Networks, in a statement.

Melvin said that the addition of the AppView capabilities to the existing PathView Cloud solution represents a breakthrough in assessing, monitoring and troubleshooting both network-level performance and application-level performance across remote locations.

According to company officials, AppView generates and precisely measures the performance of layer 4 traffic to provide visibility into how an application will perform on any network, including the impact of all security and traffic shaping technologies.

When combined with the real time end-to-end performance measured by PathView’s layer 3 technology, network managers can, for the first time, definitively identify the source of application performance issues.

“By using AppView to emulate the traffic load of an application, I am able to test for bandwidth capacity as well as other quality metrics such as latency, packet loss and jitter. I can now find problems in the network configuration and resolve them before application deployment,” said John Bartlett, principal at NetForecast, Inc.

“In addition, if there is a problem, I can do rapid isolation because of the hop-by-hop visibility that AppView provides,” said Bartlett.
