SiliconBlue Intros iCEcube2 Development Tool

SiliconBlue Technologies, a provider of low power, single-chip, high-density SRAM mobile Field Programmable Gate Array or FPGA devices, has announced that its new iCEcube2 EDA development tool is now available.

The company has worked in partnership with Synopsys (News - Alert), Inc. to bring the new offering, which is a stable FPGA synthesis of the Synplify Pro software, and will provide the mobile designers with facilities that they have never experienced before.

Quite often, the designers find it difficult to implement new innovative features, such as simultaneous dual video displays or condition-based behavior using I2C sensors, with standard mobile application processors and chipsets. With the help of the new iCEcube2 development tool provided by SiliconBlue, they will be able to use iCE65 mobileFPGA devices in conveniently designing custom functions that compliment these standard devices, helping the designers to incorporate new features quickly and easily.

The iCEcube2 development tool also enhances the performance and utilization results that the designers used to achieve deploying the previous SiliconBlue EDA tools, as almost 70 percent of designs were found to display performance improvement in the preliminary testing of the tool. On an average, the tool provides a performance improvement of around 30 percent, which proves that the designers can leverage it to achieve their device utilization and performance targets quickly so that they can complete their projects within short deadlines in an effective manner.

SiliconBlue is going to make the iCEcube2 development tool available for download from its website, www.siliconbluetech.com. The tool offers support for Windows or Linux operating systems, and more information is available at the company website. A 90-day evaluation license of the tool is available at request, while a full 1-year license is available at a price of $1,980.

According to Kapil Shankar, CEO of SiliconBlue Technologies, each customer he visited had multiple new feature ideas for handsets, and with the new iCEcube2 development tools, all of them can now easily use SiliconBlue's iCE65 mobileFPGA devices to implement their ideas and create innovative new products.

In February 2010, SiliconBlue Technologies announced to launch its new iCE65 P-Series mobileFPGA devices, which extended the iCE65 family architecture by adding performance enhancements such as 30 percent faster I/O, 'Phase-Locked Loops' or PLLs, and offering over 12,000 logic cells. These devices offered enhanced applications in various fields such as video scaling and multiplexing for multi-display applications up to 720p HD, and complex functions such as timing control and color space manipulation for color reflective displays.
