Getac Upgrades its Fully Rugged Tablet PC E100

Getac Inc. has upgraded its fully rugged tablet PC E100 with improved CPU, expanded storage capacity and solid sate drive to make it suitable for field-based applications. The device meets the needs of utility workers, general field use and customer service.

The E100 is one of the lightest rugged tablet PCs at about three pounds. It is protected from water, dirt, dust, temperature and vibration to work in conditions where a commercial grade PC normally will fail. It has been built to meet the requirements of MIL-STD-810G and IP65 standards to ensure that it is fit for field use. The standard solid state drive used provides protection to the stored files and documents when the tablet PC experiences accidental drops and physical abuse and also extreme environmental conditions which it encounters during field use. The rugged magnesium alloy case provides additional protection.

The LED backlight along with anti-reflective technologies and the 800 NITs sunlight readable display provides easy readability even in bright sunlight. Embedded battery backup is provided to permit hot-swapping with spare batteries. Battery packs can be replaced without shutting down the system and this ensures that no information is lost in the process of replacing batteries. This also extends the working hours of the unit and provides improved mobility for the professionals in the field.

The E100 is embedded with Gobi mobile broadband module and supports worldwide 3G standards with data security during transmission. WLAN and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity is included as a standard feature. It uses 1.6GHz processor and provides one RS-232 serial port and two USB ports. Carrying case, vehicle dock and portable dual-battery charger are some of the options. Getac is in the business of supplying rugged notebooks, rugged tablet PCs and rugged handheld devices to the military and the government.

In a release, Jim Rimay, president, Getac, stated that E100 is a lightweight rugged tablet PC with advanced features to meet the functional requirements of the field operations and remain compact for ease of handling in the palm. Because of its competitive price it finds acceptance by the field-based workforce.
