IBM Acquires National Interest Security Company

IBM (News - Alert) has successfully acquired National Interest Security Company, LLC, a privately held company headquartered in Fairfax, Va.

A definitive agreement to pursue the acquisition was reached between the two companies in January. However, the financial terms have not been disclosed.  The business will be integrated into IBM Global Business Services, operating initially as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

The acquisition will help IBM to expand its capabilities with federal, state and local government entities, particularly in the fast-growing areas of defense, healthcare, energy, logistics and security.

The federal expertise of NISC (News - Alert) will complement IBM's existing public sector offerings and the newly launched Business Analytics and Optimization Services for Public Sector.

The BAO team of IBM’s public sector works with government agencies to utilize the advanced analytics in order to convert the ordinary data into predictive intelligence. This helps the government agencies to enhance the speed and quality of their decision making.

“With IBM's analytic and innovation prowess, and NISC's industry knowledge and experience in defense, healthcare, energy and infrastructure management services, we'll bring an unprecedented level of service and support to our government clients,” Chuck Prow, managing partner, public sector, IBM Global Business Services, said.

With a workforce of 1,000 employees, NISC has expertise in systems engineering, biometrics, document and media exploitation, systems integration, software development, enterprise architecture, security, information assurance, analysis support and critical infrastructure protection.

In related news, IBM announced the opening of its Energy and Utilities Solutions Lab in Beijing to develop industry-specific offerings and best practices to improve the safety, efficiency and intelligence of energy and utility networks.
