Infonetics Identifies Client Security as New IT Opportunity

Companies today are finding it very difficult to provide consistent protection for all the devices used by their employees, according to the latest findings by Infonetics Research (News - Alert).

The research firm’s newly published report, “Security Client Deployment Strategies and Vendor Ratings: North American Enterprise Survey,” indicates that we are living in a multi-device and multi-OS world.

Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research noted there is a huge security client market in North America with a long list of players that is only dominated by a few serious incumbents.

According to the research however, this is about to change because today people are using networks differently and thereby creating opportunities in many segments of IT infrastructure.

Wilson also said that client security is one of the emerging areas and enterprises that want to exploit new opportunities in client security should focus attention on new problems or different ways of solving old problems to get noticed.

Based on a survey conducted in January 2010, the firm questioned security client purchase decision-makers at 103 U.S. and Canadian companies with 20 or more employees that use security client software.

Researchers asked respondents about their buying strategies, deployment drivers and barriers, and vendors, including vendor brand awareness, familiarity, ratings, and top three client security vendors.

About 61 percent of Infonetics survey respondents said they have invested in a cloud-based solution or have begun to use a hybrid cloud/client-based solution to replace traditional security clients or will consider doing so.

Symantec, McAfee, and Microsoft (News - Alert) were the three client security players with the most overall brand awareness.

Other vendors familiar to the customers in addition to these three are AhnLab, Avast, BitDefender, Computer Associates, F-Secure (News - Alert), GriSoft, GuardianEdge, Kaspersky, Panda, Smobile, Sophos, Trend Micro, and ZoneAlarm/Check Point.
