Vector Picks Accedian Networks' Switch-Free Ethernet Solutions

Vector Communications, the builder and operator of VectorFibre, a fibre-optic network, said that it has selected and deployed Accedian Networks’ switch-free Ethernet solutions to deliver fiber-based services to enterprises throughout Auckland, New Zealand.

Accedian Networks’ (News - Alert) MetroNID units complement the VectorFibre legacy-free network, enabling Ethernet services. Accedian official said that this allows Vector to deliver mission-critical business interconnect, remote storage and Internet access.

Noting that enterprises and mobile applications require the bandwidth Ethernet offers, but can’t tolerate inconsistent quality of service, Patrick Ostiguy (News - Alert), president and CEO at Accedian Networks, said, “Our solutions ensure peak performance while providing complete visibility end-to-end, ensuring Vector’s customers will always benefit from the best Ethernet has to offer.”

Accedian Networks’ Fast-Thru technology provides advanced networking and monitoring. MetroNID units’ Ethernet service creation features are deployed directly at the customer premises. Company officials said that MetroNID units’ Ethernet service creation features are enhanced by hardware-based traffic shaping, policy enforcement, switch-free aggregation and integrated monitoring capabilities.

“Accedian solutions give us the capability to offer MEF (News - Alert)-compliant, managed Layer 2 services with functionality not previously seen in the marketplace,” said Maxine Elliott, general manager at Vector Communications.

Elliott said that the adherence to Ethernet OAM standards allows the company s to monitor and report on traffic in-band, with service management features traditionally only found in a Layer 3 environment.

“This allows us to provide Ethernet services compliant with demanding Service Level Agreements, while ensuring the best possible QoS end-to-end using the units’ real-time traffic handling features,” she said. Vector's customers can now seamlessly migrate legacy TDM services and mobile backhaul applications to an IP infrastructure.

Accedian’s Vision EMS will manage Ethernet services, allowing Vector Communications to deliver Ethernet services throughout New Zealand’s major metro region. Company officials said that Vision EMS is a cross-functional workflow automation and element management system that allows new services to be installed and provisioned within minutes.

Vector Communications will be supported by Vicom, a certified Accedian solution distributor, and also an independent test and measurement equipment and service provider serving New Zealand, Australia and the South West Pacific region.
