Upgrading the Servers a Concern to Many Enterprises: Fasthosts Internet

A new research released by Fasthosts Internet, a Web hosting provider, finds that one-third of companies are reluctant to switch their current data server to new one. Complications and data loss were two of the main reasons they had for stalling any upgrades.

Fasthosts survey participants revealed that they did not want to risk their IT infrastructure because they thought that switching to a new IT solution could result in any negative consequences such as data loss and additional complications to the server.

According to the research, majority of businesses – about 87 percent – primarily maintain a server to host Web data while 67 percent of the surveyed said email services are the main reason. For 52 percent, server is useful to manage business data. For others, a server is primarily useful for storing office documents and hosting their business software.

Different issues have affected business servers over the past one year, says the report. They include problems with email, Web site downtime, failed hardware, and slow software. Despite these issues, companies still think twice about upgrading their server technology, the research said.

In the research report, Fasthosts Internet said that changing IT solutions is a goal for 25 percent of the respondents yet they are too afraid to chance any negative consequences. About 1 in 10 even feels their server is currently outdated and 22 percent have not updated or changed their server in at least three years, the report said.

“Business and technology go hand-in-hand,” said Stephen Holford, chief marketing officer for Fasthosts Internet, in a statement. “IT solutions are integrated into every part of a company’s livelihood whether it be emails, customer information, profit data – you name it, servers store it.” This is the reason why businesses today need to have dependable and updated server solutions, Holford added.

Fasthosts offers dedicated servers, which the company claims, can keep enterprise information safe at an off-site location. As they provide instant activation, there is essentially no down time for IT servicing, nor is there much chance for complications to occur.

Fasthosts Internet recently announced partnership with Microsoft to promote the new Microsoft (News - Alert) WebsiteSpark program for Web professionals. Company officials said the initiative assists smaller Web design and development companies in launching or growing their business by providing better access to the Microsoft Web platform.
