WAN Optimization Solutions From Riverbed Support VMware vSphere 4 Platform

The wide area network (WAN) optimization solutions from Riverbed Technology support the recently announced VMware vSphere 4 platform. Enterprises will be able to rapidly deploy, migrate and protect application workloads that run in enterprise private clouds by utilizing Riverbed (News - Alert) WAN optimization in conjunction with VMware vSphere 4. Riverbed WAN optimization technology enhances VMware vSphere 4 environments in a number of ways. The first is through acceleration and optimization of traffic from private clouds built on VMware vSphere 4. This enables enterprises to rapidly deploy, migrate and protect cloud-based workloads over the WAN.

 

Another way to enhance the VMware vSphere 4 environments is by accelerating consolidation of applications and servers into the cloud/datacenter while maintaining end-user performance. The third option is to improve backup/replication times while reducing WAN bandwidth consumption which facilitates better data protection in a virtual environment.

VMware and Riverbed had announced an OEM agreement to embed VMware technology as the preferred virtualization platform for the Riverbed Services Platform (RSP) in 2008. In addition, Riverbed encourages Riverbed Technology Alliance (RTA) partners to become members of the VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program. The alliance programs in turn enable RSP software applications to be VMware Ready and available on the VMware Virtual Appliance Marketplace (VAM).
