GreenPlum, a global pioneer in extensive data warehousing and analytics, recently announced the commercial launch of the GreenPlum Database 3.3, the newest version of the company’s high end database software. The latest version brings on board a broad range of technologies that enable a restructured management and improve the performance of the product and is specifically meant for DBAs and IT professionals.
One of the most prominent additions to the software is the option to increase the number of servers to a database network and extend to new servers without having to go offline and not disrupting the answering of queries by it. Customers can scale the GreenPlum Database Systems as per their requirements and enjoy the benefits of extra storage facility, improved query responsiveness and better system performance.
The GreenPlum Database 3.3 also comes with a superior version of the popular Open Source administration and development platform for PostgreSQL, the pgAdmin III. The pgAdmin III administration unit provides complete support tailor-made for technologies on GreenPlum and these enhancements have also been integrated back unto the pgAdmin III Open Source Project.
The new version also has brought about a wide variety of improvements to management commands, like starting and stopping the database, table analysis, reintegration of failed nodes, aimed at improving the performance and flexibility for larger networks. Apart from this a host of critical performance improvements like quicker categorization and better execution of parallel additions has also been integrated. The latest version is also supported on server hardware from a wide range of vendors like HP, Dell, Sun and IBM and for development and assessment on popular platforms like Mac OSX 10.5, Red Hat (
