SkyRecon Security Offers Solution for New Microsoft Kernel-Level Vulnerability

SkyRecon Systems has announced that its research team recently uncovered the kernel-level vulnerability CVE-2009-0082 in Microsoft windows operating systems, and as a result, the company can offer security solutions for it.

SkyRecon has an ongoing partnership with Microsoft (News - Alert) and claims that this will help the company in providing real-time protection against these vulnerabilities.

With its multi-layered, light-weight, single-agent endpoint protection platform, StormShield Security Suite provides proactive protection for the system and the data. It offers risk-based control and dynamic policy enforcement for: anti-virus/anti-spyware, device control, full-disk and file-based encryption, host-based intrusion prevention (HIPS), system firewall, application control, wireless security, and network access control (NAC).

Hackers often attack the Microsoft Windows kernel as it forms the important part of an operating system. The newest vulnerability discovered by SkyRecon affects all Microsoft Windows 2000 and newer versions of the operating system. If an attacker can successfully execute the arbitrary code in kernel mode, the entire affected system will then be under his control, according to SkyRecon. This allows the attacker to install programs; view, change or delete critical data; and even create new accounts with administrative user rights.

“In addition to building leading-edge unified client security solutions to secure the Windows operating environment, our research and development team strive to provide Microsoft with information we uncover in order to strengthen the security of their operating systems and related applications,” said Yann Torrent, R&D Director at SkyRecon Systems Inc. “During our ongoing security research of the Windows kernel environment, we found that the kernel didn’t validate these handles properly.”

Usage of hardware space by security solutions still continues to be among the biggest problems in using an antivirus solution or a firewall.

SkyRecon states while its solutions provide effective endpoint security, they do not eat up precious hardware space.
